Boston College’s Athletics Department is seeking an experienced and energetic Athletic Maintenance Field Tech to join our team. Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Supervisor of Fields, you will perform a wide variety of skilled tasks to maintain our athletic and recreational facilities at the highest standard. Your core duties will include:

Maintaining and conditioning highly manicured natural grass and synthetic playing surfaces for sports including football, baseball, softball, and soccer.
Safely applying fertilizers and plant protectants using spray rigs and spreaders, and performing irrigation system repairs.
Precisely marking and painting athletic fields and courts.
Operating and maintaining a wide range of equipment, including mowers, aerators, tractors, skid steers, utility vehicles, and top dressers.
Performing daily upkeep such as blowing, mowing, trimming, weeding, and litter removal across assigned landscapes, walks, and parking lots.
Supporting arena maintenance, including basketball floors, ice rinks, and the setup/breakdown for university events.
Contributing to all major campus events such as Commencement, Alumni Weekend, and concerts.
Working effectively both independently and as part of a team to complete projects with sensitive timelines.

Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with specific licenses and hands-on experience. The requirements are:

A current, valid Massachusetts Driver’s License.
A current Massachusetts Pesticide Applicator License.
The ability to obtain a Massachusetts 2A Hoisting License within six (6) months of hire.
The physical ability to perform demanding tasks, including lifting 50 lb. bags and working in all weather conditions.

Strongly Preferred Qualifications:

A minimum of 1+ years of experience in golf course or athletic turf management.
A two- or four-year degree in Turfgrass Science, Horticulture, or a related field.
Proven experience maintaining natural grass baseball, football, and softball fields.
Proficiency in operating reel mowers, troubleshooting irrigation systems, and performing field layout/painting.
Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with ice rink maintenance is a plus.
