Midwest Vision Partners is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician for our Rochester location at 432 West University Drive. In this role, you will be the first clinical contact for patients, performing diagnostic tests, preparing them for their physician visit, and ensuring their experience is smooth and informative. The schedule is consistent: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 7:25 am to 4:30 pm, Tuesday from 8:25 am to 5:30 pm, and Friday from 7:25 am to 3:30 pm. There is also potential for travel and training to our Lake Orion office.

What You Will Be Doing

  • You will greet patients and explain what they can expect during their appointment, making them feel welcome and informed from the start.
  • You will escort patients to exam rooms and perform diagnostic ophthalmic tests, including visual acuity, tonometry, and lensometry.
  • You will accurately record patient information in our electronic medical records system, including chief complaints, present illness, and past medical history.
  • You will conduct tests to measure eye muscle function, pupil size, and reactivity.
  • You will apply drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes as directed by the physician.
  • You will assist with minor surgical procedures, intraocular injections, and laser treatments, including preparing patients for sterile procedures.
  • You will educate patients on medication administration and pre- and post-operative instructions under physician guidance.
  • You will scribe for physicians during exams, ensuring accurate and complete documentation.
  • You will maintain patient confidentiality and follow all HIPAA requirements when handling medical records.
  • You will use problem-solving skills to respectfully and efficiently address any patient concerns.
  • You will stay current with eye anatomy, diseases, symptoms, and ocular medications to answer general patient questions.
  • You will maintain a clean clinic environment, including sterilization of equipment.
  • You will assist team members and complete other special projects as needed.

What We Are Looking For

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to drive a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.

Desired:

  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Entry-level candidates with 0 to 3 years of experience are welcome to apply.
