 Key Responsibilities

As a Structural Welder, you will be responsible for executing high-quality welds in demanding industrial environments. Your core duties will include:

  • Performing skilled welding using multiple processes (GMAW-MIG, FCAW, GTAW/TIG, SMA-Stick, and Submerged Arc) to join steel components according to blueprints, work orders, and specific welding procedures.
  • Setting up welding equipment, including connecting torches to gas tanks and precisely adjusting oxygen and fuel flow to achieve the correct flame for cutting and pre-heating workpieces.
  • Preparing materials by preheating metal, cleaning joints with grinders or wire brushes, and manually applying filler rod to supply weld metal.
  • Finishing welds by removing excess material, slag, and spatter using gouges, grinders, and chippers to meet specification standards.
  • Working safely at heights, which includes climbing ladders and working on scaffolds to assemble and dismantle structural elements.
  • Making critical judgments on weld placement and technique based on metal type, thickness, and temperature to ensure structural integrity.

Qualifications

To be successful in this journeyman-level role, you must possess:

  •  A minimum of 2 to 4 years of verifiable Journeyman-level welding experience in an industrial or structural setting.
  •  Demonstrated skill in multiple arc welding processes (GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, SMAW) and the ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and welding procedure specifications (WPS).
  • All applicants must be legally authorized to work for any employer in the United States. Austin Industrial is unable to sponsor employment visas for this position.
  • A proven track record of working safely with industrial equipment and in potentially challenging environments, including at heights.
