Key Responsibilities
As a Farrowing Tech, you will be responsible for the daily care and management of our animals and facilities. Your essential duties will include:
- Assisting with all aspects of the farrowing and lactation process to meet weekly targets for healthy, full-value pigs.
- Ensuring all animals receive proper feed, water, ventilation, and bedding daily.
- Following precise procedures for day-one piglet care, fostering, and processing.
- Providing proper treatment and attentive care to sows in the farrowing crates.
- Thoroughly cleaning, bedding, and disinfecting farrowing pens and rooms after weaning.
- Maintaining accurate daily records and communicating openly with management about any concerns or issues.
- Operating farm equipment such as pressure washers and assisting with other farm tasks as needed.
- Working cooperatively as part of a small team to accomplish daily and weekly farm goals.
Qualifications
We are looking for a dependable individual who is physically capable and has a caring attitude toward livestock. The ideal candidate will have:
- A strong interest in and/or experience working with and caring for livestock. A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required to apply.
- The physical ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs, stand and walk on concrete for extended periods, and handle breeding stock safely.
- The ability to lead by example, work effectively in a team of 2-5 people, and communicate openly.
- A problem-solving mindset, critical thinking skills, and a goal-oriented approach to work.
- Willingness to work a rotating schedule that includes weekends and holidays, with normal hours of 45-50 per week.
- Comfort working in a farm environment with exposure to dust, animal dander, odor, and variable temperatures.
