Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and determine appropriate amounts of hot and cold lunch items to meet student needs while minimizing waste.
- Serve the hot lunch line efficiently and with a friendly demeanor ensuring students receive their meals in a positive atmosphere.
- Oversee storage and disposal of unused food following safety and sanitation guidelines.
- Order and maintain inventory levels to ensure adequate supplies are available for meal preparation.
- Perform daily cleanup of the kitchen and service areas maintaining a clean and sanitary environment.
- Conduct major cleaning of refrigerators, storerooms, carts, and ovens at regularly scheduled intervals.
- Assist with freight unloading, checking in deliveries, and putting away stock in proper storage locations.
- Complete production sheets accurately to track meal counts and inventory usage.
- Monitor students in the lunch line to ensure orderly service and assist as needed.
- Wash and fold laundry as required for kitchen operations.
- Comply with state safety practices including all sanitary requirements and food handling regulations.
- Follow all special diet specifications including washing hands and using new gloves when preparing special diets to prevent cross contamination.
- Work cooperatively with the building principal in providing lunches for students.
Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Commercial food service experience or equivalent experience is required. Candidates must be able to lift 50 pounds and assist with hauling, storing, and rotating all stock. Availability for early morning hours including during inclement weather is essential. Candidates must have or be able to obtain a food service manager certificate. The ability to communicate pleasantly with staff, students, and the public is important. Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed along with the ability to understand and carry out detailed instructions and resolve routine problems are required. The position requires a commitment to safety, sanitation, and quality food service.
Benefits and Perks
This full time position offers an hourly pay range of USD 17.77 to USD 24.73 depending on experience. The contract length follows student contact days and cleaning days providing a schedule that aligns with the school calendar.
