You will perform vital class surveys and provide independent, trusted assessment services for shipowners, insurers, and charterers, making your expertise crucial to maritime operations.

Key Accountabilities And Responsibilities

As a Surveyor with RINA, you will take ownership of the inspection process from start to finish. Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting detailed surveys and inspections on classed vessels and marine assets to verify strict compliance with international regulations (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL) and RINA classification rules.
  • Performing independent condition surveys, cargo surveys, and damage assessments, providing objective findings for various stakeholders.
  • Offering expert technical advice to clients on vessel design, construction, maintenance, and repair strategies.
  • Investigating and troubleshooting complex technical issues encountered during surveys or raised by clients.
  • Preparing precise, clear, and timely inspection reports using standardized digital tools and templates.
  • Proactively engaging in continuous learning to stay at the forefront of maritime technology, regulations, and best practices.
  • Upholding the highest ethical standards, ensuring integrity and transparency in all your professional activities.

Qualifications And Experience

To meet the challenges of this role, you will need a solid technical foundation and practical experience:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • One of the following experience profiles:
  • A minimum of 3 years working as a Junior Surveyor, or
  • A minimum of 5 years in engineering or survey roles within the marine or a closely related heavy industry, or
  • A Marine Engineering degree with a Chief Engineer certification and 2-3 years of experience, including proven ship/cargo damage survey expertise.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, commensurate with technical reporting and client interaction.
  • Ability to interpret engineering plans and a solid understanding of shipbuilding practices and operations.
  • Working knowledge of ship engineering systems, machinery, and relevant software packages.
  • A commitment to developing expertise in RINA Rules, statutory regulations, and safety policies.
