Here is an opportunity to join the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Aquatics program at Commander Fleet Activities Yokosuka as a seasonal Lifeguard – Recreation Assistant. This position is assigned to the Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) and supports Aquatic training, education, and general operations at the installation. This is a seasonal position with possible work dates from May 1, 2026 to September 30, 2026. The hourly salary ranges from $15 to $17.01, with intermittent work schedules of 0-40 hours per week depending on facility needs. What You’ll Be Doing
- Perform all pool and or waterfront lifeguard responsibilities, including supervising swimmers and patrons, monitoring activities, applying first aid, enforcing safety rules, reporting safety hazards, and performing water rescues as necessary.
- Observe conditions of assigned areas, including possible hazards, water and chemical conditions, wind and weather, to ensure a safe environment.
- Remove hazardous materials when necessary, such as floating debris and glass.
- Perform rescue work promptly, render cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or emergency first aid, and call for medical assistance as needed.
- Conduct and document pool chemical testing results.
- Check chlorine and pH levels on a scheduled basis.
- Notify Certified Pool Operator or supervisor of chemical imbalances and adjust chemicals as directed.
Qualifications and Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- 6 months of general experience and 6 months of specialized experience, OR
- 2 years of education above High School with courses related to Recreation.
- Combination of experience related to customer service and recreation activity-based functions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to organize, plan, and administer special events and entertainment activities.
- Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Knowledge of the goals, principles, techniques, and procedures used in organizing, planning, and conducting leisure time activities.
- Knowledge of the Navy MWR mission and the entire scope of Community Recreation activities.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Ability to maintain records, compile and organize data for reports, and perform research on recreation topics.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Knowledge of computers, office procedures, and print production.
Conditions of Employment:
- Satisfactorily complete all background checks to include National Agency Check with Written Inquiries (NACI).
- Must be able to work varied work schedules to include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to work with hazardous and biohazardous materials (cleaning agents, pool chemicals, blood, etc.).
- Must have or be able to obtain and maintain within 90 days of hire: Automated External Defibrillator Certification, Blood-borne Pathogen Certification, Navy Basic Fitness Certification.

- This is a NAF Flexible (FLEX) position. Employees are not eligible for benefits or leave accrual.
- Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
